England v Denmark: How to watch the Women’s World Cup group-stage clash, TV channel, live stream details, kick-off time

England face Denmark in the Lionesses’ second Group D match on Friday in Sydney.

The European champions won their Women’s World Cup group stage opener over Haiti in a surprisingly tough 1-0 victory, courtesy of Georgia Stanway’s 29th-minute penalty.

On Saturday, Denmark won by the same margin against China, with victory earned by an 89th-minute Amalie Vangsgaard strike.

Denmark are the toughest opponents in Group D, on paper at least, and this is likely to be a stern test of England’s World Cup credentials.

They finished as runners-up at the 2023 Tournoi de France, and are ranked No. 13 in the world.

The last match between the two sides, a friendly, ended in a 2-0 victory for England in 2019, with goals coming from Nikita Parris and Jill Scott.

Bronze looking for new heroes to emerge

Speaking to The Telegraph, England and Barcelona defender Lucy Bronze discussed the potential for new players to make a name for themselves during the World Cup.

“Chloe Kelly is a great example of what can happen,” she explained. “She had played three games before the Euros and was barely involved in that tournament, but she became a living legend by scoring the goal that won the final.

“She took her moment. Any player is capable of doing that in our squad, any player can have a moment like that and win a game, or win the whole thing.

“We’ve got players who have had really good seasons, who have a lot of quality, who have their chance now at a World Cup.”

Denmark catching up to England?

Denmark manager Lars Sondegaard is wary of the threat posed by England, describing them as one of the “biggest nations” in women’s football.

A win for Denmark would leave them almost certain to progress to the next stages, while simultaneously throwing England’s tournament chances into doubt.

Sondegaard believes that European football in general is benefiting from improved investment, and that factor reduces England’s advantage over other sides.

“That development is the reason you can’t say one team are the big favourites,” he said.
