Erling Haaland: Alan Shearer highlights ‘one thing’ stopping Manchester City forward from scoring even more
Erling Haaland’s extraordinary goal return would be even better if the striker’s Manchester City team-mates got on the same wavelength as him, according to Alan Shearer.
The Norwegian, who joined City from Borussia Dortmund last summer, has taken the Premier League by storm in his debut season.
Haaland has netted 25 goals in 21 league games so far, eight more than his closest rival in the Golden Boot race, Tottenham’s Harry Kane.

However, the Premier League’s all-time top scorer Shearer explained – after sitting down for an interview with Haaland – that he believes there’s more to come from the 22-year-old.
“It seems absolutely bonkers that someone who has got 25 goals in 21 games, we’re saying he could do better,” Shearer said on Prime Video Sport ahead of Wednesday’s top-of-the-table clash with Arsenal.
“I said in the interview about his frustration, about some of the times when his team-mates aren’t either putting it into the box from out wide or passing it.”
Shearer showed several examples of Haaland making intelligent movement in recent games, only for his City team-mates to hold onto the ball instead of playing the cross or pass the Norwegian was looking for.
“I can see him getting frustrated,” Shearer said while looking at the clips.

He continued: “When I spoke to him yesterday I got a little bit of that. OK, he’s been scoring goals and getting assists, but that’s the one thing – I think he’s looking to his team-mates to try and help him out a bit more.”
Fellow pundit Ally McCoist agreed that it would be in the best interests of the City team to get Haaland running at defenders as much as possible.
“He’ll not be slow in telling them. I think, listening to him, he knows exactly what he wants. You’ve got to play to his strengths,” said the former Scotland striker.
“The perfect example was the one where [Bernardo] Silva should have played him down the line. If he gets through and he’s on that run – if you’re a centre-back you’re really up against it.
“As a centre-back playing against him, you’re happy with him out the box, and if he’s facing his own goal you’re delighted.”
