Estranged Princes Harry, William unite to honor Diana’s legacy

Prince Harry and Prince William are coming together to celebrate the legacy and charity work of their late mother, Princess Diana.

The pair each shared separate videos on Friday to commemorate the annual Diana Award — an honor bestowed upon young people who want to change the world.

The Duke of Cambridge, 41, opened the virtual ceremony today while the Invictus Games founder, 38, introduced the award winners.

“Today, we recognize the power of all young people to inspire meaningful change,” William said.

“To all the award recipients, congratulations. Your accomplishments are a testament to your character your passion and your determination to make a difference, you are an inspiration to young people everywhere.”

The Prince of Wales congratulated the award recipients, and said “these stories remind us why organizations like the Diana Award are so important.

“It is a reminder that when we invest in young people, when we provide them with the tools and opportunities to make a difference, they can truly change the world. A belief shared by my mother, and one I am proud to continue in her name.”

The Duke of Sussex echoed his older brother’s sentiments, also looking back on Diana’s icon status.

He began: “As we come together, I am reminded of the profound belief my mother held in the transformative power of young people.

“She recognized their unique ability to challenge the status quo and push for a more inclusive and compassionate society,” Harry added. “Her legacy continues to inspire and serve as an example of how to navigate the complexities of our world today.”

The Diana Award ceremony comes just a day before what would have been her 62nd birthday.

The Princess of Wales died at the age of 36 in 1997 in a fiery car crash in Paris.

In July 2021, Harry and William united to attend a memorial for Diana to memorialize her 60th birthday.

The duo unveiled a statue of Lady Di in Kensington Palace’s Sunken Garden at the time.

The sculpture was created by artist Ian Rank-Broadley and features Diana standing with three children.

A verse from the spiritual book, “The Measure of a Man,” is inscribed on the statue’s plaque.

The phrase — which was also used in the program for her 2007 memorial service — reads: “These are the units to measure the worth / Of this woman as a woman regardless of birth / Not what was her station? / But had she a heart? / How did she play her God-given part?”
