Hayter’s team-mates Omar Fraile and Daniel Martinez helped organise the lead-out at the finish and after the event, Hayter paid tribute to the pair.
Hayter, 24, said: “It’s amazing. My team really backed me even after I wasn’t amazing in Catalunya [his last race], but I’ve stepped up I think, and they were all in for me and I’ve just got to thank them.
“This final was perfect and I just had to do the last 100 metres.
“It’s really nice, especially to get my first win this year. I broke my collarbone in Australia (at the Tour Down Under), it took me a while to come back from that and hopefully that gives me more confidence to keep moving forward.”
Tour de France 2022 champion Jonas Vingegaard finished safely in the pack, but Egan Bernal came over the line over six minutes down.
