‘Euphoria’ cast ‘constantly’ ‘crying’ after Angus Cloud’s death

Sydney Sweeney is opening up about her “Euphoria” co-star’s death.

“[My co-stars and I] were constantly on the phone with each other crying, because it was just such a shock. I don’t think it’ll truly feel real or hit me until we’re filming and I won’t see Angus on set,” she told Glamour U.K., in an interview published Tuesday.

Sweeney, 26, who is promoting her rom-com “Anyone But You,” with Glen Powell (out Dec. 22), was referring to Angus Cloud, who died at 25 in July, reportedly after consuming a lethal combination of fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, benzodiazepine and other drugs in what’s being ruled as an accidental overdose.

The “Euphoria” star, who was born Conor Angus Cloud Hickey, was found dead at his family’s home in Oakland, California, where he was discovered by his mother.

“It is with the heaviest heart that we had to say goodbye to an incredible human today,” a statement from Cloud’s family said at the time. “As an artist, a friend, a brother, and a son, Angus was special to all of us in so many ways.”

At the time of Cloud’s passing, his family did not reveal what happened to him but said that he struggled with his mental health.

“We hope that his passing can be a reminder to others that they are not alone and should not fight this on their own in silence,” the statement read. “We hope the world remembers him for his humor, laughter, and love for everyone. We ask for privacy at this time as we are still processing this devastating loss.”

Sweeney starred alongside Cloud in Seasons 1 and 2 of HBO’s “Euphoria,” which follows troubled teens including drug addict Rue (Zendaya), abusive football player Nate (Jacob Elordi), transgender girl Jules (Hunter Schafer), popular girl Cassie (Sweeney) and soulful drug dealer Fezco “Fez” O’Neill (Cloud).

Shortly after his death, Sweeney posted a tribute on Instagram.

“Angus you were an open soul, with the kindest heart, and you filled every room with laughter,” Sweeney wrote. “This is the hardest thing ive ever had to post, and im struggling to find all the words.”

She also posted a photo of her hugging Cloud. “You will be missed more than you know, but I’m so blessed to have known you in this lifetime, and I’m sure everyone who has ever met you feels the same,” she continued. “This heartache is real and I wish we could’ve had one more hug and 711 run. All my love is with you.”

Her co-star Zendaya, 27, also posted a tribute to Cloud over the summer after his passing.

“Words are not enough to describe the infinite beauty that is Angus,” Zendaya captioned a photo of Cloud.

“I’m so grateful I got the chance to know him in this life, to call him a brother, to see his warm kind eyes and bright smile, or hear his infectious cackle of a laugh (I’m smiling now just thinking of it) I know people use this expression often when talking about folks they love … ‘they could light up any room they entered’ but boy let me tell you, he was the best at it. I’d like to remember him that way. For all of the boundless light, love and joy he always managed to give us. I’ll cherish every moment.”

“My heart is with his mother and family at this time and please be kind and patient as grief looks different for everyone,” she concluded.

Although Sweeney posted that Instagram tribute to Cloud, this is her first time speaking about the tragedy in an interview.

“[At least] when we are filming, all of our eyes are on each other and we’re there for each other, just in a different way than we’re able to when we’re all in very separate places in the world,” she told the outlet.

“It’s really interesting when someone passes away in our industry, because they’re still alive in so many forms.”
