Euro 2024: Russia banned from qualifying for the tournament in Germany, confirms UEFA

Russia has been banned from qualifying for Euro 2024, UEFA has confirmed.

The country and its clubs have been banned from UEFA and FIFA competitions since Russia began its invasion of Ukraine in February.

The ban was upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in July following an appeal from the Russian football federation.

UEFA have since confirmed Russia will not be in the qualifying draw for the 2024 European Championships.

The European governing body said in a statement: “All Russian teams are currently suspended following the decision of the UEFA Executive Committee of 28 February 2022 which has further been confirmed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on 15 July 2022.

“Russia is therefore not included in the UEFA European Football Championship 2022-24 qualifying draw.”

Russia, who were banned from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and were removed from the tournament’s qualifying play-offs back in March, have not played a senior men’s international game since November 14 2021.

The women’s team were excluded from this summer’s European Championships and were replaced by Portugal in the draw.

The football federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina have confirmed that a friendly match against Russia has been arranged for November, despite the ongoing international ban.

The qualifying draw for Euro 2024 in Frankfurt will take place on October 9.
