Eurosport extends agreement with IPF to strengthen ties with Powerlifting

Viewers across Europe will now be able to enjoy coverage from the Classic Open Powerlifting World Championships and the Equipped Open Powerlifting Championships until at least 2029 on Eurosport and via its digital platforms.

From 2025, Eurosport will strengthen its ties to the sport still further with the addition of the European Classic Open Powerlifting Championships.

Eurosport will harness the scale of its digital platforms to engage sports fans across Europe by showcasing new editorial formats, giving viewers access to exclusive behind-the-scenes content, never-seen-before athlete portraits and compelling explainers that will lift the lid on the intricacies of powerlifting as the sport seeks to reach new audiences.

Trojan Paillot, Vice President, Sports Rights Acquisitions and Syndication, at Warner Bros. Discovery, said: “We’re pleased to extend our partnership with the International Powerlifting Federation to provide even greater visibility of powerlifting and its athletes. We’re confident we can combine our unmatched reach across Europe and our unique storytelling ability to continue engaging new audiences, helping the sport to grow further.”

Gaston Parage, IPF President, added: “The partnership with Eurosport has been incredibly beneficial and this extension will do even more to raise our profile in the sporting world. Being on a prestigious sports channel like Eurosport will also bring powerlifting into many new homes and make it more accessible to a larger population. From this year, we will include new features in our productions that will give more understanding of powerlifting to new viewers. This will all help our wonderful sport to continue to grow.”

Details of the partnership, which started in 2021, were announced at the IPF General Assembly in Malta during the World Championships.
