Everton 1-1 Tottenham: Michael Keane late stunner cancels out Harry Kane’s penalty as both sides end with ten men
A Michael Keane stunner saw Everton rescue a point at the death after Harry Kane’s penalty had looked odds-on to give Spurs the win in a bad-tempered encounter at Goodison Park.
Everton were the better side in an intense first-half, but their lack of a centre-forward meant that they had no reference-point in attack so struggled to create.
Spurs, on the other hand, struggled for control but created the better chances, Kane having one shot kicked off the line by Keane before glancing a header wide after good work from Ivan Perisic.

After the break, Everton were again pushing the pace, but then on 58 minutes, Kane shoved Demarai Gray – he was booked – a scuffle ensued and then Doucoure put his hand in Kane’s face.
Out came the red card then and 10 minutes later, Kane compounded the wound by sweeping home a penalty after Keane inadvertently kicked Cristian Romero.
Everton huffed and puffed thereafter as Spurs sat back, and they got their reward out of nowhere as Keane rifled a beauty in from distance, this after Lucas Moura had seen his marching orders for Spurs.
TALKING POINT
As the better side, they ought to start games quickly and seek to dominate. But again, they allowed their opponents to get going, then after taking the lead in fortuitous circumstances – the penalty was more freakish than forced – sat back against 10 men.
Though it might’ve seemed a fair bet Everton wouldn’t score, that decision limited the advantage of an extra player, allowed the crowd to get going, and ultimately meant Keane had the time that he did to score what might prove a costly equaliser. Nothing about Spurs suggests they will do enough to make the top four.
