Everton forward Anthony Gordon undergoing medical ahead of £45m move to Newcastle – report

Anthony Gordon is undergoing a medical ahead of a £45 million move from Everton to Newcastle, according to reports.

According to Sky Sports, the Everton forward has travelled to Tyneside after the clubs reached agreement on an initial fee of £40m plus add-ons that could see the deal rise to £45m in total.

Gordon has not started a game for the Toffees since the home defeat to Wolves on Boxing Day and hasn’t found the net since October 22 in a 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

If the deal goes through, Gordon will become Newcastle’s second highest transfer, behind £63m Alexander Isak who joined the club from Real Sociedad in August.

A home-grown product, Gordon has been at Everton since 2012, scoring seven goals in 65 games since making his debut in 2020.

Gordon was strongly linked with a move to Chelsea in the summer with Everton reportedly demanding £60m.

Meanwhile, Newcastle have announced that Kieran Trippier has signed a contract extension, keeping the defender at the club until the summer of 2025.

The 32-year-old right-back, who joined the club from Atletico Madrid in January 2022, has been a stand-out player for Eddie Howe’s side this season, helping the club record 16 clean sheets in all competitions, also registering six assists.

“I’m absolutely delighted that I’ve extended my contract here,” Trippier told the official Newcastle website.

“I’ve got a lot of thank yous to make to the manager, owners, fans and my team-mates.

“When I first arrived here, they made me feel so welcome and I want to help the club achieve great things. It’s a positive moment for us players in the club and there’s nowhere I’d rather be.”

Howe added: “It’s a fitting reward for the season he’s had. He’s been outstanding both on and off the pitch, showing real leadership at a difficult moment when he first arrived, and now he’s excelled in a team that’s doing well.

“I can’t praise him enough for everything he’s given the club.”
