Everton secure win over Brentford, Leeds United hold Brighton and Hove Albion to draw in Premier League

Everton secured a potentially vital 1-0 win over Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

With Sean Dyche settling into his role as Frank Lampard’s replacement at Goodison Park, he was able to call upon his former Burnley charge, Dwight McNeil.

The forward opened the scoring in the first minute and it proved to be the only goal of the game, giving the Liverpudlians three points.

The result sees Everton move into 15th place, two points clear of West Ham in 18th, though the Londoners have two games in hand.

Brentford are ninth on 38 points, though a win would take them above Fulham who have played a game more.

Leeds United drew 2-2 at home with Brighton in another afternoon kick-off.

The away side dominated possession and went ahead through Alexis Mac Allister in the first half, before Patrick Bamford equalised on 40 minutes.

In the second half, Jack Harrison put through his own net just after the hour mark before he made amends with a 78th-minute strike.

On the south coast, Philip Billing scored the winner in a shock 1-0 victory over Liverpool for Bournemouth.

Chelsea continued their recent domestic uptick under Graham Potter as Ben Chilwell, Kai Havertz and Mateo Kovacic scored for the away side in a 3-1 win over Leicester City, who netted through Patson Daka and had Wout Faes sent off.

Fellow London side Tottenham had a Harry Kane brace, plus a Heung-min Son effort to help Antonio Conte’s men to a 3-1 win against Nottingham Forest, with Joe Worrall grabbing a consolation.

Manchester City kept up the pressure at the top of the table as an Erling Haaland spot-kick consigned Crystal Palace to defeat.

Sunday sees Arsenal in a London derby at Craven Cottage against Fulham, while further east, West Ham host Aston Villa.

Manchester United look to get over the 7-0 thrashing against Liverpool when they host Southampton, and Wolves travel to Newcastle.
