Fabio Paratici resigns from Spurs after unsuccessful ban appeal, Daniel Levy reveals ‘stressful time’ for Italian

Fabio Paratici has resigned from his role as managing director of football at Spurs after an unsuccessful appeal of his worldwide ban, as club chairman Daniel Levy revealed the toll the process has taken on the Italian.

The two-and-a-half year ban, preventing Paratici from involving himself in football-related activites, originally came after he was implicated in alleged financial irregularities while in a similar role at Juventus.

The Spurs statement read: “Whilst there continues to be a dispute as to the scope and extent of the ban, the current worldwide ban prevents Fabio from fulfilling his duties as our Managing Director of Football.

“Fabio has consequently taken the decision to resign from his position at the Club with immediate effect to focus on his legal position in respect of the FIGC and FIFA rulings.”.

Levy contributed his own words to the statement, adding: “This has been a stressful time for Fabio and his family.

“We wanted to ensure that we allowed for due process to be followed. Fabio is a man who lives and breathes football – we wish him well.

“As outlined in our year end results, we started several months ago to restructure our football operations and last week announced the appointment of Scott Munn as Chief Football Officer to head up all the departments.

“We shall continue to strengthen our football functions over the coming months.”

It’s been a season of turmoil for Spurs, having sacked Antonio Conte last month, and with results continuing to be mixed after an up-and-down campaign.

Under interim boss Cristian Stellini, they are, however, still in the mix for a Champions League spot, sitting three points behind fourth-placed Newcastle, albeit having played a game more.

Spurs travel to face Eddie Howe’s side this weekend in a clash that will likely go a long way to deciding who qualifies for Europe’e elite competition next season.
