Fans decry attacks on her new look
Fans are furiously defending Meg Ryan after new photos of the reclusive rom-com queen sparked speculation about possible cosmetic work.
The “When Harry Met Sally” legend, 61, made a rare public appearance in New York City on Wednesday to support Michael J. Fox at a screening of his forthcoming documentary “STILL.”
Snaps from the event subsequently spread on social media, with cruel trolls taking aim at the actress’ appearance, accusing her of tweaking her famous face.
One claimed the star might have had some filler, while several cruel keyboard warriors claimed she was starting to resemble Madonna — another Hollywood icon who has been subject to surgery rumors.
However, supporters snapped back, saying criticism of Ryan was unwarranted,
“Leave. Meg. Ryan. Alone,” one defender declared. “Aging happens. Deal with it because one day the unrecognizable face will be the one staring back at you.”
“Why are women so judged by their appearance as they age?” another asked. “Meg Ryan is 62 [this year]. She has never done anything but make people laugh. Stop the snarky remarks and let her age in peace.”
“Meg Ryan looks exactly as different as you would expect a 61-year-old to look,” a third fan insisted.
Meanwhile, another chimed in to say that Ryan was entitled to do whatever she wanted with her appearance.
“It’s her money and her life, as far as I’m concerned,” the supporter stated.
Ryan has not responded to the frenzy surrounding the recently released photos.
The Hollywood sweetheart has never spoken publicly about whether she’s had any cosmetic work done, despite more than a decade of speculation about her appearance.
Back in 2015, however, she hit out at haters who commented on her looks.
“Imagine being a hater, how stupid! My women friends are not sitting around talking about … well, sometimes there are conversations like that, but the people I value talk about kids growing up, what kind of world they are going into, what we are eating, what we are breathing,” she told People magazine.
Ryan hasn’t been seen in a big-screen movie since 2015’s “Ithaca.” However, the star last year thrilled fans by announcing she was returning to her rom-com roots.
Ryan, long known as the queen of the genre, announced that she would star in and direct the romantic comedy “What Happens After.”
David Duchovny has also been attached to the project, although production details have not yet been made public.
