Final day of snooker Q School sees Ishpreet Singh Chadha and He Guoqiang claim tour cards in Bangkok

Ishpreet Singh Chadha will take his place on the World Snooker Tour circuit next season after emerging victorious from the final day of Q School in Bangkok.

Ishpreet Singh, 27, compiled breaks of 68 and 106 in a 4-0 whitewash of Hon Man Chau 4-0 in the semi-finals of Asia and Oceania’s Event Two tournament on Monday, the final day of the 2023 Q School qualifying process.

He earns a professional tour card for the 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons and joins compatriot Himanshu Jain on the main circuit.

China’s He Guoqiang was also successful. He trailed Wang Yuchen 3-1, but claimed the final three frames to complete a 4-3 victory in a match littered with heavy breaks.

Wang produced knocks of 84, 118 and 82, but He dominated from that point onwards with 77 and 50 accompanying the 60 he pieced together in the second frame.

He competed in three ranking events as a wild card five years ago, most notably enjoying a 6-1 win over Gary Wilson in the International Championship.

Eight places were settled over two competitions at Leicester’s Morningside Arena between May 26-June 12 with 208 players competing.

Andrew Pagett, Liam Pullen, Alexander Ursenbacher and Andrew Higginson were successful in Event One with Stuart Carrington, Louis Heathcote, Dean Young and Alfie Burden regaining their respective tour cards from Event Two.

Four tour cards were also available from the 128-player Asia and Oceania Q School events via two competitions which ran between 1-12 June were open to citizens of the regions.

Thor Chuan Leong of Malaysia regained his spot on the main tour courtesy of a 4-1 final win over Lei Peifan while Thailand’s Manasawin Phetmalaikul defeated Ka Wai Cheung by the same scoreline.

Thor opened with a 106 break against Lei as he secured his tour return after a three-year absence.

The Championship League is the first ranking event of the new season with Leicester hosting the various groups of the competition between June 26-July 21.

World champion Luca Brecel lifted the title last year with a 3-1 win over Lu Ning and will be among the favourites with Ronnie O’Sullivan, Mark Selby and Judd Trump among the leading men who competed in last year’s event.
