FIS Freestyle Skiing World Cup: Marielle Thompson and David Mobaerg clinch ski cross victories in Switzerland

Marielle Thompson led a Canadian clean sweep in the women’s ski cross in Veysonnaz, Switzerland.

The 31-year-old crossed first in her quarter-final and semi-final performances to be joined by compatriots India Sherret and Brittany Phelan, who won silver and bronze respectively, on the podium.

France’s Marielle Berger Sabbatel was the only non-Canadian competitor in the big final but fell short with fourth overall.

David Mobaerg soared to ski cross gold in the men’s event to clinch his second victory of the year.

The Swedish athlete cruised through his quarter-final and semi-final in first place to set up his victory over home favourite Alex Fiva.

Fiva took silver whilst Florian Wilmsmann of Germany took bronze over Italy’s Simone Deromedia.

All eyes now turn to the ski cross World Cup final weekend at Idre Fjaell, with Thompson and Fiva currently in prime position to clinch overall victory.
