‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ dethrones ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’
Freddy managed to dethrone Taylor.
“Five Nights at Freddy’s” earned the No. 1 spot at the box office on Friday beating out “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,” which was in first place for two weekends in a row.
The supernatural horror film, based on the video game franchise, raked in $39.46 million on its opening night, according to IMDB’s Box Office Mojo.
It is slated to enjoy a $78 million opening weekend, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” which held the top honor at the box office since its opening two weeks ago, fell to second, with earnings of $4.8 million.
Due to the success of the concert movie and her tour, Swift’s net worth has soared to a staggering $1.1 billion, Bloomberg reported this week.
The Western crime drama has a longer-than-usual running time of 3 hours and 26 minutes and some independent theaters took it upon themselves to set an intermission in the middle of it.
Studio representatives had to alert the offending theaters they were in violation of the movie’s licensing agreement.
“People say it’s three hours, but come on, you can sit in front of the TV and watch something for five hours,” Scorsese told the Hindustan Times.
“After Death,” a documentary chronicling the stories of near-death experience survivors, came in fourth, earning close to $2.2 million.
“The Exorcist: Believer” which was in third place last week, moved down to fifth, with $990,000 in sales.
Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” landed in third, with a $2.675 million take.
