Florence Pugh reacts to backlash over Harry Styles sex scenes

Fans are anxiously waiting to see Florence Pugh and Harry Styles get steamy in Olivia Wilde’s upcoming drama film “Don’t Worry Darling.”

The 26-year-old Brit addressed the commotion over sex scenes she shares with the “Watermelon Sugar” singer, 28, after a steamy trailer debuted in May.

“When it’s reduced to your sex scenes, or to watch the most famous man in the world go down on someone, it’s not why we do it. It’s not why I’m in this industry,” Pugh told Harper’s Bazaar in a profile published on Tuesday of her One Direction co-star. “Obviously, the nature of hiring the most famous pop star in the world, you’re going to have conversations like that.”

The “Black Widow” star insisted the film is more than the much-discussed intimate scenes.

“That’s just not what I’m going to be discussing because [this movie is] bigger and better than that. And the people who made it are bigger and better than that,” she said.

Pugh is portraying Alice, a 1950s housewife who is seemingly happily married to Styles’ character Jack. However, things go south when Alice starts to realize that her life is not what it seems as she starts to find rifts in her utopian-esque world.

Of her character, Pugh notes: “It was a different beast.”

“I love playing a distressed woman. I guess all of my movies have that element of women being forced into a corner, forced into an opinion, forced into a way of life. And then finally, something cracks,” the actress continued.

Wilde, 38, is starring and also directing the feature. She described how her film is similar to erotic thrillers such as “Fatal Attraction” and “Indecent Proposal” since it’s also about female sexuality.

“[Those movies are] really sexy, in a grown-up way … I kept saying, ‘Why isn’t there any good sex in film anymore?’” the “Booksmart” filmmaker told Vogue last December, noting how she hopes her audience will “realize how rarely they see female hunger, and specifically this type of female pleasure.”

Gemma Chan, KiKi Layne, Nick Kroll and Chris Pine are also appearing in “Don’t Worry Darling,” which is set to debut in theaters on Sept. 23.

Pugh also confirmed to Harper’s Bazaar that she split from longtime beau Zach Braff, 47. The pair dated from 2019 until 2022, breaking up earlier this summer.

“We’ve been trying to do this separation without the world knowing, because it’s been a relationship that everybody has an opinion on,” Pugh said. “We just felt something like this would really do us the benefit of not having millions of people telling us how happy they are that we’re not together.”

“So we’ve done that. I automatically get a lumpy throat when I talk about it.”
