Florida attorney Brandon Labiner accused of killing father, found dead in jail cell by apparent suicide
A suspended Florida attorney accused of fatally shooting his father after stealing $450,000 from his mother’s trust fund earlier this year was found dead in his jail cell early Wednesday morning.
Brandon Labiner, 34, died of an apparent suicide by hanging himself inside the Palm Beach County jail, police officials told WPTV.
He was held at the jail without bond since he was arrested and charged in the murder of his father Paul Labiner, 68, back in July.
Labiner had been taken into custody while there was an active warrant out for his arrest in Broward County, police said at the time.
In October, Labiner was indicted and charged with first-degree murder with a firearm and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.
Labiner was scheduled to appear in front of Circuit Court Judge Cymonie Rowe for a status check-in on Nov. 28 in West Palm Beach, according to court documents.
While officials have withheld the name of Labiner’s victim, a probable cause affidavit revealed a man’s body was discovered lying in a pool of blood inside a Boca Raton parking garage of an office building connected to the building that housed Paul Labiner’s law firm.
Surveillance footage from several locations was used to link Brandon Labiner to the fatal July 1 shooting.
The footage showed the suspect driving around the area of the building at 2 p.m., and the same individual riding up to Paul Labiner’s office on a bike an hour later carrying a drawstring bag before removing a box that contained a gun.
The man in the video waited around for forty minutes until a second man appeared and the two got into a scuffle that brought them out of view of the cameras before the first man ran off.
A family member of the victim discovered the body, which police say had a gunshot wound to his head and upper chest and two gunshot wounds to his lower body, according to WPTV.
A police investigation also found .9mm shell casings were located next to the victim’s body, three more live bullets were found near the entrance to the walkway and one live bullet was found in a parking garage trash can.
In April, the Florida bar suspended Brandon Labiner’s law license after Paul Labiner filed a complaint and accused his son of stealing $450,000 from his mother’s trust fund.
The duo were partners at the firm Paul Labiner started in the 1980s until June of last year, when Paul Labiner filed a civil suit against his son, claiming his poor work performance lost the firm business and that Brandon Labiner stole from the company.
