Floyd Mayweather fight v John Gotti III ends in mass brawl after sixth-round stoppage as police clear arena

Floyd Mayweather’s exhibition fight against John Gotti III was marred in controversy after his victory prompted a mass brawl inside the ring.

Referee Kenny Bayliss ended the contest after the sixth round – a decision which left Gotti raging and he continued to swing punches at the former world champion.

The fight with Gotti III had originally been scheduled for eight two-minute rounds with no judges present inside the venue.

Bayliss lost complete control of events inside the FLA Live Arena in Florida, as both fighters’ teams got involved and numerous other fights broke out amongst the watching crowd.

Police were forced to disperse the crowd and threatened those who chose to continue the carnage with charges.

Mayweather took to social media after the fight and said: “That’s why they pay the big bucks, because I put on a show.”

Meanwhile, Gotti III, the grandson of former New York crime boss John Gotti was still angry with the decision when posting his verdict on Instagram: “Bum never put me down or stopped me. It was a DQ for no reason.”

After retiring from professional boxing with a 50-0 record in 2017, Mayweather has fought several exhibition fights against YouTubers and mixed martial arts fighters.

Arguably the most famous of those was against UFC legend Conor McGregor, who was defeated after 10 rounds in a technical knockout.

His previous fight was against retired MMA fighter and reality TV star Aaron Chalmers at the 02 Arena in London back in February.

Mayweather’s last fight in the United States was against Logan Paul back in 2021, while Deji Olatunji has also fought against the American.
