Fort Bliss Army soldier killed, five injured in ‘tactical vehicle accident’

An Army soldier was killed and five others were injured in what military officials called a “tactical vehicle accident” at Fort Bliss in Texas on Friday morning.

The soldiers were involved in an accident in the fort’s training area around 9:30 a.m., according to Fort Bliss officials.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, Fort Bliss and the 1st Armored Division said in a press release.

The conditions of those injured were not immediately clear.

The deceased soldier’s name is being withheld until 24 hours after family notification, officials said.

A Fort Bliss public affairs official told The Post more information about the incident will be released in the coming days.

Maj. Gen. James P. Isenhower III, the senior installation commander of Fort Bliss and 1st Armored Division, offered his “thoughts and prayers” to the late soldier’s family and friends.

Fort Bliss is home to the 1st Armored Division, known as “Old Ironsides,” which consists of roughly 17,000 soldiers trained in operating tanks, artillery, attack helicopters and other armored vehicles, according to the division’s website.

The Army has not said which type of vehicle was involved in Friday’s wreck.
