French Open 2023: Day 5 order of play and schedule – When are Iga Swiatek, Casper Ruud and Ons Jabeur playing?

Day 5 of the French Open is upon us and the action ahead is mouthwatering.

The first week has already seen Daniil Medvedev dumped out of the tournament by world No. 172 Thiago Seyboth Wild, while local favourite Caroline Garcia exited the competition on Wednesday, falling to Anna Blinkova in three sets.

Now it’s the turn of the likes of world No. 1 Iga Swiatek, Ons Jabeur and Casper Ruud to take centre stage, with Britain’s Jamie Murray also in action in the men’s doubles.

Top women’s match – Iga Swiatek v Claire Liu

Swiatek produced an emphatic 6-4 6-0 win over Cristina Bucsa to book her place in the second round in one hour and 22 minutes as she began her quest to seal a second successive French Open title.

Liu, meanwhile, beat Ylena In-Albon 6-1 6-4 to produce her maiden win at the Grand Slam and sealed a third career meeting with the world No. 1. Last time they met was at Indian Wells in March which Swiatek won 6-0 6-1.

The pair are second on Philippe Chatrier on Thursday.

Top men’s match – Alexander Zverev v Alex Molcan

Alexander Zverev will feature in the night match on Thursday in Paris as he plays Alex Molcan.

The 2021 and 2022 semi-finalist at Roland-Garros is looking to get back to the top of men’s tennis and got his 2023 campaign off to a good start with a straight-sets win over Lloyd Harris in the first round on Court Simonne-Mathieu.

Gael Monfils had originally been scheduled to play Thursday’s night match against Holger Rune, but the Frenchman withdrew from the tournament with a wrist injury on Wednesday, giving Rune a walkover.

The winner will take on either Frances Tiafoe or Aslan Karatsev in the third round.

Brit Watch

Only three Brits made it into the main draw at Roland-Garros, and two of those – Dan Evans and Jack Draper – went out in the first round.

Attention on Thursday turns to Jamie Murray and his partner Michael Venus in the doubles. The pair are in second-round action at 10am UK time against Colombian duo Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah on Court 11.
