‘Gangsta’s Paradise’ rapper Coolio dead at 59

Rapper Coolio, known for his hit 90’s song ‘Gangsta’s Paradise,’ died Wednesday. He was 59.

The rap star was found dead on the bathroom floor of a friend’s home in Los Angeles, his longtime manager, Jarez Posey, told TMZ.

Coolio, whose legal name was Artis Leon Ivey Jr., was pronounced dead on scene by responding EMTs, TMZ reported. It’s suspected he died of cardiac arrest.

The rapper launched his career in the 1980s and he skyrocketed to national fame with his 1995 Grammy Award-winning hit “Gangsta’s Paradise,” which was featured on the soundtrack of  Michelle Pfieffer’s 1995 crime drama “Dangerous Minds.”

The iconic song spent three weeks as a No. 1 on the billboard charts and was parodied by Weird Al Yankovic in his song “Amish Paradise.”
