Gardener grows nearly 20-pound onion, may break record
This onion made him cry tears of joy.
A gardener in England brought a behemoth nearly 20-pound onion to a flower show in North Yorkshire — and organizers believe the behemoth vegetable may set a world record.
Gareth Griffin’s voluminous veggie — which weighed in at 19.77 pounds — beat out the past record of 18.68 that was set in 2014.
Organizers of the Harrogate Autumn Flower Show, which runs until Sunday at Newby Hall & Gardens, posted the onion on its Instagram page, with a disclaimer stating the feat is still pending Guinness World Records’ review.
“I wonder how many onion rings you could make from this?” one cheeky Instagrammer mused.
Another quipped: “I think I would cry if I saw it!”
The prized onion can be found on display at the show’s Incredible Edible Pavilion among other huge vegetables such as a cabbage, cucumber and carrot.
