Georgia mother Debbie Collier seen calmly shopping at Family Dollar before death
Georgia mother Debbie Collier appeared calm and unafraid during a trip to a Family Dollar within 24 hours of her sudden death, authorities said Monday, as the mystery into the disturbing homicide case deepened.
Collier was reported missing on Sept. 10, the same day she entered the store in Clayton shortly before 3 p.m., according to the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, who released surveillance footage of the outing.
Footage of the shopping trip shows Collier purchased several items from the store and was in and out within 15 minutes, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“In the video, the victim appears to be calm and not in fear of anything,” the sheriff’s office said, according to the AJC. She was also reportedly alone in her SUV when she walked into the store, police said.
Collier was found dead in a ravine about 60 miles from her Athens home on Sept. 11 after she wired her daughter $2,385 along with the alarming message, “They are not going to let me go, love you.”
The store is about 13 miles north of the wooded area where Collier was found, authorities said, who now believe she died between 3:09 p.m. on Sept. 10 and 12:44 p.m. the next day.
While inside the chain store before her death, she bought tarp, a torch lighter, a rain poncho and a reusable tote bag, the sheriff’s office said, according to NBC News.
The news outlet reported her body was found with a red tote bag and blue tarp, but it is unclear if those are the items purchased at the Family Dollar.
