Ghislaine Maxwell attended Chelsea Clinton’s wedding instead of deposition
Convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell attended Chelsea Clinton’s wedding instead of sitting for a deposition in a civil suit filed against Jeffrey Epstein by one of his accusers, according to court documents unsealed Friday.
Maxwell – who’s now behind bars for recruiting and grooming underage girls for Epstein – was photographed in 2010 peering on from a crowd as former President Bill Clinton walked his daughter down the aisle, despite claiming at the time she was tied up with family affairs in Britain.
The British socialite was subpoenaed in 2009 to testify in a case lodged against Epstein by his alleged victim Virginia Guiffre, according to the court documents.
Maxwell initially agreed to be deposed, lawyers for Guiffre wrote in the 2016 motion.
She coordinated “a convenient time and place” with Guiffre’s attorneys and even secured a “confidentiality agreement” in exchange for her seemingly reliable testimony.
“At the eleventh hour Maxwell’s attorney informed plaintiff’s counsel that Maxwell’s mother was very ill and that consequently Maxwell was leaving the country with no plans to return,” the filing states.
Given the supposed circumstances, the deposition was canceled.
Just several months later, the sex trafficker appeared as one of 400 guests at the lavish nuptial ceremony in upstate New York.
“Maxwell was photographed at Chelsea Clinton’s wedding in Rhinebeck, New York, confirming the suspicion that she was indeed still in the country and willing to say anything to avoid her deposition,” the filing states.
The claims were made in a 2016 motion asking that Maxwell’s request to conceal her financial assets be denied, arguing that the money proves she was deeply tied to Epstein’s sex trafficking operation.
The filing does not state the nature of the 2009 civil case against Epstein, but it was filed the same year Giuffre sued the pedophile. It was dismissed in December of that year.
Giuffre alleged he sexually assaulted her when she was 15 and that she was “required to be sexually exploited by [Epstein’s] adult male peers, including royalty, politicians, academicians” and others.
Although he is not accused of any wrongdoing, former President Bill Clinton’s name appears 73 times in the newly released papers tied to Epstein.
The former commander in chief, who was photographed with Epstein and flew on his private jet on numerous occasions, has long denied having any nefarious connections with the convicted pedophile.
