Gigi Hadid released after marijuana arrest in Cayman Islands
Gigi Hadid was arrested for marijuana possession while on vacation in the Cayman Islands earlier this month, according to a new report.
The 28-year-old supermodel and a friend were taken into custody after customs officials allegedly found “ganja and utensils used for the consumption of ganja” in their luggage on July 10, local outlet Cayman Marl Road reported.
Hadid and her friend Leah Nicole McCarthy were arrested on suspicion of Importation of Ganja and Importation of Utensils used for the consumption of ganja.
The two were taken to the Prisoner Detention Center and later released on bail.
Hadid and McCarthy appeared in Summary Court on July 12, where they were formally charged.
Both pleaded guilty and were fined $1,000 each.
No conviction was recorded.
“Gigi was traveling with marijuana purchased legally in NYC with a medical license,” Hadid’s rep told E! News in a statement Tuesday.
“It has also been legal for medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017.
Her record remains clear and she enjoyed the rest of her time on the island.”
The friends were reportedly staying at Palm Heights, a luxury boutique hotel that has become a popular vacation spot for A-listers.
The “Next in Fashion” co-host didn’t seem to let her brief troubles put a damper on her vacation, which appeared to be a belated birthday celebration for McCarthy, 29.
Hadid, who shares a 2-year-old daughter with singer Zayn Malik, posted a photo of a massive new dragon tattoo positioned on her upper thigh in an Instagram post just two days after her court appearance.
Both women have since shared suggestive snapshots of the group soaking up the summer sun on the island.
