‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ takes off at box office
“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” is aiming for the stars at the box office.
The third installment of the Marvel superhero franchise earned $48.2 million in its debut Friday, according to IMDB’s Box Office Mojo.
It is predicted to take home $250 million worldwide on its opening weekend, Forbes reported.
The flick, which The Post called “a grotesque, exhausting adventure,” stars A-Listers like Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Chris Pratt and Sylvester Stallone.
“The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” which was in the No. 1 spot for the past month, chugged down to second, with a $4.2-million take.
The animated adventure, based on the Nintendo game, became the first 2023 film to make over $1 billion at the global box office.
It also made history as the fifth movie released during the pandemic times to rake in over $1 billion, after “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Jurassic World Dominion” and “Avatar: The Way of Water.”
The supernatural horror “Evil Dead Rise” took third place Friday, and earned close to $1.7 million.
It has already become the highest-grossing film in its franchise, according to Collider.
In the fourth spot was “Love Again,” also released on Friday, which took in only $955,000.
The film features Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Sam Heughan and stars Celine Dion, who IndieWire said can’t even “save this wildly contrived rom-com from its own sadness.”
The songstress also recorded five songs for its soundtrack, including the title track.
“Are you There God? It’s Me, Margaret,” the movie adaptation of the popular Judy Blume novel, followed in fifth place, with sales of $866,000.
