Gunshots fly in Tompkins Square Park for second time in a week as cops eye same shooter who wounded bystanders: sources

A gunman opened fire inside Tompkins Square Park for the second time in a week on Thursday – and investigators believe the same man may be behind both shootings, sources said.

A gunman opened fire inside Tompkins Square Park for the second time in a week in a broad daylight shooting Thursday — and investigators believe he is the same shooter who wounded two innocent bystanders in the park over the weekend, law enforcement sources said.

A gunman wearing all black and a ski mask fired off a gun just after noon inside the greenspace, near the intersection of Avenue B and East Ninth Street in the East Village, police said.

No one was hurt, and the gunman took off on a blue Citi Bike, cops said.

It was not immediately clear why the shooter began firing, or whether he was targeting anyone in particular.

Police sources say the shooter is believed to be the same person who sprayed bullets into the park Saturday afternoon, striking two bystanders: a 26-year-old man hit in the buttocks and a 53-year-old woman shot in the right hip.

The shooting erupted when two men were arguing and one began to fire “four or five” shots on the west side of the park, between the Seventh and Ninth Street entrances, cops and sources said at the time.

Officers from the 9th Precinct rushed to the scene to find the stunned, bleeding victims.

Police sources said Saturday that the suspect was believed to be about 5-foot-7 and wearing a black-colored tracksuit with white lettering across the chest.
