Harry and Meghan set to return to California without a ‘peace deal’

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may be returning to California in “turmoil,” a close friend has revealed, without striking a “peace deal” with the royal family.

“CBS Mornings” co-host Gayle King, who is Meghan’s friend, said the relationship with the Sussexes and the royal family is still tenuous — largely due to the couple’s bombshell interview with Oprah in 2021 after they made the decision to step down from their royal duties.

King — who became friends with Meghan after being introduced by Oprah — was in London reporting on Queen Elizabeth’s historic funeral, revealing to “Extra” that there have been efforts on “both sides to, sort of, make this right. We shall see.”

“Big families always go through drama, always go through turmoil,” she said in the “Extra” interview. “It remains to be seen — are they going to be drawn closer together or are they going to be drawn apart?

“I have no idea,” she added. “I have no inside information on that.”

According to the Daily Mail, the pair are returning to the US empty-handed, “without a peace deal being struck.”

However, King noted the effort was visible when William and Harry made several appearances together alongside their father King Charles III, as the family mourns the death of Queen Elizabeth.

“I will tell you this: It was good to see Harry standing with his family,” she said.

Although it was hoped the tragedy may pave the way for a reunion, royal experts have said the tension between the brothers and their wives, Kate Middleton and Markle, remains — despite presenting a united front at several events.

Tensions are still reportedly high between the brothers and their wives.

Prince Harry and Prince William marched side-by-side behind Queen Elizabeth’s coffin in the royal procession and the state funeral and appeared with Kate, the Princess of Wales, and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, to view floral tributes at Windsor Castle.

It’s believed the Sussexes spent the night in Windsor after Elizabeth’s funeral on Monday but will be returning to the US to their children — Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 1 — after almost two weeks away.

Royal author and former Vanity Fair editor Tina Brown suggested it would be wise for Prince Harry to ditch his upcoming memoir, telling British TV show “Lorraine” there can be “no trust” while its contents loom over the family.

“This is an incredible moment to be used. The country loved that feeling of unity and seeing the brothers back together. It was a beautiful sight,” she said on Tuesday.

“Unless he does give up his book and these tell-all documentaries and stops doing the interviews, then there can be no trust.”
