Harry Kane not ruling out century of England goals after extending record in Ukraine victory – ‘I am still young’

Harry Kane believes that he can reach 100 goals for England and says it “is not out of the question” after breaking the Three Lions record last week.

Kane became England’s record scorer after scoring from the penalty spot in a 2-1 win away in Italy, the 54th goal for his country. The skipper then followed that up with a close-range finish in a 2-0 win over Ukraine to take his tally up to 55 goals in only 82 caps.

He now sits two goals clear of previous record holder Wayne Rooney, who managed 53 goals in 120 caps, while fellow Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton sits third on the list with 49 goals in 106 caps.

He said: “Getting 100 will be tough for sure, but I never count out anything.

“I am still young – I am 29, I am still fit and strong. I want to play for England for as long as I can.

“Every game there is I will be putting myself forward to try and play,” added Kane.

“We will take it step-by-step. The next step will be trying to get into the sixties.

“A hundred is not out of the question. It will be extremely tough but we will have to see how the next few years go.”

Aside from breaking the all-time record, Kane also has the honour of scoring the most international goals in one year after netting 16 in 2021.

“I am extremely passionate about my country – I love playing for England,” he added.

“To think of all the English legends and strikers that have played the game and to be number one now is just beyond my dreams.

“Playing for England is special and to have this record is special.

“I don’t think I dreamed this far. I dreamed of playing for England and scoring for England – to be record goalscorer was not even in my dreams.

“I have had so many great moments and hopefully there are more to come.”

The 29-year-old also holds the top goalscoring record for Tottenham after netting his 267th goal for the club in a 1-0 win over Manchester City last month.

Kane will now turn his attention back to club matters when Spurs face Everton at Goodison Park in the Premier League on April 3.

Meanwhile, Gareth Southgate’s side are back in action for a European Championship qualifying double header away in Malta and at home to North Macedonia on June 16 and 19 respectively.
