Harry Kane: Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou wants England captain to be ‘involved’ at north London club next season

New Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou says he wants Harry Kane “involved” in his squad this season.

Kane has been heavily linked with a move away from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer with Bayern Munich reportedly the frontrunners to sign the club’s all-time record goalscorer.

Bayern are said to have made a second bid for Kane after their opening bid of £60m plus add-ons was rejected by the north London club.

Speaking in his first press conference as Spurs boss, Postecoglou says he wants Kane to be a part of his plans for the upcoming season.

“Harry Kane is one of the premier strikers in the world and I want him involved here,” the Australian, who moved to Tottenham from Scottish Premiership champions Celtic in June on a four-year deal, told reporters.

“I want to make this club successful and there’s no doubt that’s what he wants.

“I doubt it’s [our conversation] going to be defining in the way people think it will be. I just want to introduce myself to Harry, give him my vision for the football club and then go on the training pitch and make it happen.

“It’s [players leaving] not the forefront of my mind right now. I’m just focusing on the direction I want the club to go right now. If I start thinking about that kind of detail right now then I’m going to miss the chance to establish some of the finer details.

“Like most clubs, we know there will be activity between now and the end of the window.”

Postecoglou says he does not want to “miss the opportunity” to present his vision at the club to Kane before the England captain makes a decision on his future.

“I haven’t had assurances [on the future of Harry Kane] and I wouldn’t expect them,” he said.

“You can never deal with certainties in any aspect of life. I just try to concentrate on what I know. All I know now is that Harry [Kane] is part of the squad and we’re excited to get him back working with the squad.

“My conversation with him will be about how we can make this club successful and that is what he wants as well.

“I doubt it will be defining in the manner people think. I want to introduce myself to Harry, give him my vision, get an understanding from him over what his vision is and try be successful

“If I worry about the impact it could have either way then it’s going to impact my ability to work with the team. I’m not going to miss this initial opportunity to get my ideas into the players.”

Postecoglou, 57, will become the first Australian to manage in the Premier League when he leads Spurs out against Brentford at Gtech Community Stadium on August 13.
