Harry makes clear he does not plan on ditching royal title

Prince Harry has made clear that he and wife Meghan Markle have no plans to give up their royal titles — even though he accepts he will never return to the UK or life as a working royal.

The 38-year-old prince was asked on “60 Minutes” about accusations that he and his wife were still cashing in on their titles while making millions trashing the family he got them from.

“Why not renounce your titles as Duke and Duchess [of Sussex]?” Anderson Cooper asked Harry in the interview promoting the prince’s revelatory memoir, “Spare.”

“And what difference would that make?” Harry replied sniffily, sidestepping the accusations that he is cashing in and ignoring polls that show the majority of Brits want the titles removed.

Cooper did not press him on cashing in, but instead questioned why he had to be so public with his brutal attacks on his family.

“One of the criticisms that you’ve received is that OK, fine, you wanna move to California, you wanna step back from the institutional role. Why be so public? Why reveal conversations you’ve had with your father or with your brother?” Cooper asked.

Harry again claimed that he tried to have such conversations privately but “every single time” there “have been briefings and leakings and planting of stories against me and my wife.”

“You know, the family motto is, ‘never complain, never explain.’ But it’s just a motto. And it doesn’t really hold,” Harry complained.

In a separate interview aired Monday on “Good Morning America,” Harry conceded that he will likely never leave his California mansion to return to his homeland or work as an active royal.

“I don’t think it’s ever gonna be possible,” he said.

“Even if there was an agreement or an arrangement between me and my family, there is that third party that is going to do everything they can to make sure that isn’t possible,” he said, seemingly referring to the UK press and royal PR machine he blames for being in cahoots to attack him and his wife.

“Not stopping us from actually going back, but making it unsurvivable,” he said.

“And that’s really sad because that is essentially breaking the relationship between us,” said Harry, shifting the blame from his own shocking accusations and revelations.

Asked bluntly why he doesn’t just “get out” to avoid “hypocrisy,” Harry claimed: “I can’t ever get out.”

“I’m incredibly aware of my position, and I’m incredibly grateful for the life that I’ve had and continue to live.

“But there’s no version of me being able to get out of this,” he claimed.

Despite his stunning revelations in his numerous interviews — including a six-part Netflix docu-series — and his often brutally personal memoir detailing behind-the-scenes showdowns, Harry still claimed that he has never been the one to leak about his family.

“So now, trying to speak a language that perhaps they understand, I will sit here and speak truth to you, with the words that come out of my mouth” instead of leaked stories to the press, he said slowly, as if speaking to a child.

When Anderson told him that the picture he painted was of a family that was “so ‘Game of Thrones’ without dragons,” Harry said: “I don’t watch ‘Game of Thrones,’ but there’s definitely dragons — the British press.”

A poll by MailOnLine last month showed that a staggering 98% of the nearly 10,000 readers asked wanted the Sussexes to be stripped of all of their titles. A separate poll by YouGov showed that 44% wanted the titles axed, versus 32% who felt they should be kept.

Another YouGov poll last month showed that the Sussexes were the least popular royals only behind Prince Andrew, the king’s brother tied up in the tawdry sex scandal of late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Royal correspondent Robert Jobson — a contributor to “GMA,” and other outlets — was among many questioning Harry’s rationale for not giving up his titles.

“If it makes no difference then give it back. Clearly ‘H’ and ‘M’ want to remain Duke and Duchess after all,” he tweeted.

Nile Gardiner, a former aide to feared ex-Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, also insisted that “selfish and self-absorbed” Harry “is not worthy of the Royal title that he carries.“

GB News host Dan Wootton also said that the latest round of interviews was “the end game” for Harry and his heritage.

“Strip him of his titles!” Wootton tweeted.

The podcaster behind “Royal Tea With Brittany” said that Harry and Meghan would never willingly give them up because “they need the titles to remain relevant.”

Harry “needs to realize that if he wasn’t Prince Harry that Anderson Cooper wouldn’t care about him,” she tweeted.

Others, meanwhile, noted the apparent hypocrisy in Harry making such intimate revelations about his family members in the name of complaining about his own loss of privacy.

“H: Let’s keep everything private. Also H: Did you know that my brother is circumcised?” one viewer quipped.
