Hero pup guards woman, 84, for 2 days while missing and unconscious

A super puppy came to her rescue.

An 84-year-old woman who went missing for two days in Texas was found unconscious and guarded by her new pup.

Pearl Radcliffe went missing last week, sending friends and family into a worried frenzy.

Her nephew Dawne Griffith spent two days searching the area near her home and the surrounding bayou.

As Texas EquuSearch volunteer search teams convened at her house on Friday afternoon, Griffith received a call from Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital in Houston: They had Radcliffe safe and checked into their facility, KHOU reported on Friday.

Pearl Radcliffe has been suffering from memory loss as of late.

She had just adopted her dog Maximus a few days before she went missing.

Her nephew Dawne Griffith searched for his aunt for two days before she was found.

Search and rescue teams had gathered at her house on Friday when the family learned that Radcliffe had been checked into the hospital.

The elderly woman was found unconscious on a sidewalk, but she wasn’t alone.

Radcliffe’s dog, Maximus, who she had just adopted nine days prior, was waiting faithfully by her side. Authorities believe he stood by his new owner the whole time she lay on the sidewalk.

The Texan woman was kept at the hospital for several days of observation. Griffith told KHOU that his aunt is doing better but doesn’t remember much of what happened to her. She has been suffering from memory loss recently.

Adults living with dementia are at a higher risk of going missing as they may become confused and lose track of where they are, according to the Congressional Research Service.

Griffith was “very relieved” to learn that his aunt was safe and had been guarded by her new pet.

Maximus had been taken in by animal control, but the family planned to pick up the pup immediately. “They’re never letting him go,” reporter Janelle Bludau said after speaking with the family.
