Hillary Clinton agrees the ‘gutsiest’ thing she ever did was stay in her marriage

Hillary Clinton has said her decision to stand by her husband, former President Bill Clinton, after revelations that he had affairs with a number of women — including White House intern Monica Lewinsky — isn’t “for everybody.”

Clinton, the former secretary of state and two-time Democratic presidential candidate, was asked about her marriage in a recent interview.

“You have a marriage that has been on public display since the beginning,” said the Rev. Whittney Ijanaten, a chaplain at UCLA Health who officiates LGBTQ marriages. “You said the gutsiest thing you ever did was stay in your marriage.”

“That doesn’t mean that’s right for everybody,” responded the 74-year-old Clinton, nodding her head yes.

The interview was part of a teaser released on Tuesday to promote “Gutsy,” a show debuting Sept. 9 on Apple TV+ on which Hillary Clinton and daughter Chelsea serve as executive producers.

It’s a spinoff of “The Book of Gutsy Women,” which the mother and daughter co-authored in 2019.

The eight-part docuseries will continue the book’s theme, interviewing female celebrities, performers, community leaders and newsmakers. 

Guests include actress Goldie Hawn, celebrity Kim Kardashian, singer Megan Thee Stallion, comic Wanda Sykes and anthropologist Dr. Jane Goodall. 

Bill Clinton’s affairs and accusations that he sexually assaulted a number of women have dogged Hillary Clinton’s career for nearly three decades.

The former president’s indiscretions resurfaced dramatically during Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, when Republican Donald Trump tried to bring several of Bill Clinton’s accusers to a debate. 

In 1995, Lewinsky, then a 22-year-old White House intern, began having an affair with Bill Clinton while he was president. 

The sexual relationship, which Clinton denied took place, ultimately led to his impeachment by the House in 1998 for lying under oath and obstructing justice. 

The 42nd president was acquitted after a Senate trial in February 1999.
