Hinge users shocked when man reveals his special ‘friend’
The online dating world is a tricky game and often, a tough one to navigate.
There’s no shortage of odd and cringeworthy profiles but a recent find has shocked even the hosts of “Swipe Talk,” a show on TikTok that discusses online dating and hookup culture.
“Swipe Talk” hosts Isabella Marano and Simone Nicole shared the seemingly normal Hinge account they came across, before revealing something that “took their breath away.”
Screenshots from the TikTok video show the unidentified man answering a prompt on the dating app, telling perspective dates they “should *not* go out with me if you’re not down with Lauren @grrrr80.”
The co-hosts clicked into the linked account and discovered that Lauren is a sex doll — complete with her own Instagram and TikTok account with thousands of followers.
The profile included several pictures of the pair together — celebrating holidays, at the beach and even on a plane — looking very much like a couple in love.
“That’s a doll, that’s a doll, that’s a doll, that’s a doll. That took my breath away,” Nicole says in the clip.
In the bio section of the online profiles, the man and the doll — Lauren — describe themselves as a “Chicago couple” — a huge red flag for many and sparking a huge reaction from followers.
“Damn at least he is honest??? The bar is in hell,” one follower commented.
“I had hopes that it was going to be a dogs insta account. Wishful thinking clearly,” another said.
However, according to Marano, Lauren still wouldn’t be a no to a possible date with the man.
“Here’s what’s wrong, I’d swipe right,” she told her co-host, who although appalled wasn’t overly surprised.
“I just knew you were going to say some bulls – – t out your mouth,” Nicole said to her friend.
“A man having an entire Instagram account dedicated to a sex doll, with a personality, named Lauren? Sign. Me. Up,” Marano says.
Some followers agreed that if it’s a joke, he could be a pretty entertaining date.
“If he is doing it ironically he is AMAZING!! Unfortunately I’m 97.4% sure it’s earnest,” one user wrote. “Bring back up the 1st date, but if it’s a joke account…”
“It’s all fun and games until you fall in love with the dude and Lauren gets jealous,” another follower laughed.
