Gun-focused?
Let’s face it, Arsenal’s priority at this point of the season isn’t the Europa League.
As nice as it would be to end the season with a trophy, particularly of a European persuasion, the Gunners know they have no better chance of ending a long wait without a Premier League title this year and, in reality, anything else might just be a distraction from their task of fending off the haunting spectre of Manchester City behind them in the table.
Arteta rotated his side for the first leg and despite coming in as favourites to progress, will be expected to do so again for the return match ahead of another vital clash against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
This could play into Sporting’s hands who, unlike Arsenal, aren’t in a title race back home and will focus all their efforts on going deep in the Europa League.
Judging by their first leg efforts, they will be confident of catching a preoccupied Arsenal cold.
