This will almost certainly be the last time we see Luka Modric at a World Cup with the veteran now well into his thirties and unlikely to be playing when the tournament come around again in 2026 in North America.

Morocco coach Walid Regragui said of his own team: “We realise that we made a great achievement already. We know that the media, social media, and on TV, we saw the pictures, and we saw that everyone was proud of us in our country.

“I think the world as a whole is proud of this Moroccan team because we show great desire. We work hard, and we played honest, hard-working football.”

THREE WORRIES FOR MOROCCO

The Moroccans suffered a blow with injuries against France, and that could give Croatia an advantage.

Nayef Aguerd suffered a pre-match injury, while there are also fitness concerns for Romain Saiss and Noussair Mazraoui, who were both injured during the defeat.
