Human skull found by anthropologist at Florida thrift shop

This Halloween scare came a week too late.

An anthropologist rummaging through a Florida thrift shop Saturday found what is believed to be a human skull, according to authorities.

The grim discovery was made in the Halloween section of the North Fort Myers store, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

“Based upon the observations of detectives on scene, the skull is believed to be that of a human,” the sheriff’s office said.

The case is not suspicious, the sheriff’s office said, but more testing from the medical examiner’s office is expected.

The store owner told investigators the skull was in a storage unit that was bought years ago, authorities said.

There have been other instances of human skulls landing in thrift shops.

A Goodwill store employee in Arizona found a human skull while going through donations in September, authorities said at the time.

Back in 2014, a human skull was donated to an Austin, Texas Goodwill, according to reports.

It was at least the fourth skull given to the non-profit that summer.
