Hunter Biden spotted with Melissa Cohen in Beverly Hills
Hunter Biden and his South African filmmaker wife Melissa Cohen were spotted over the weekend in celeb-obsessed Beverly Hills, where they mingled with pals at a trendy and upscale eatery.
The rare public outing came Saturday at Japanese sushi bar Matsuhisa — a likely welcome distraction from the intense scrutiny by congressional Republicans of the first son’s overseas business dealings — and the ramping-up of a federal probe.
Hunter, looking wildly uncomfortable in front of the camera, was snapped wearing a scruffy jean jacket and pants combo, and cap — and what looks like the start of a beard, mustache or both..
Still, Hunter Biden, 53, has managed to float under the public radar while Republicans aim to use him as a cudgel to create headaches for the commander-in-chief and Hunter’s dad, President Joe Biden..
Hunter secretly tied the knot with Cohen in 2019; the couple welcomed a son whom they named after Hunter’s late brother, Beau.
Hunter’s previous wedded bliss was with Kathleen Buhle; with whom he had three children prior to their 2017 divorce.
Following Beau Biden’s death in 2015, the younger Biden briefly dated Hallie Olivere Biden — his big brothers widow. The liason ended around 2019.
Last month a planned plea agreement for Hunter Biden regarding two federal misdemeanor charges over willful failure to pay federal income taxes imploded in a Delaware court.
The deal was coupled with a pretrial diversion agreement on a felony gun charge for illegal possession of a firearm while addicted to illicit drugs.
US District Judge Maryellen Noreika, a Trump appointee who oversaw the hearing, raised constitutional questions about the agreement and found daylight between the prosecution and the defense.
The younger Biden’s lawyers seemed to be under the impression he’d be off the hook for other potential charges as the federal government continued its probe, believed to be related to his overseas activities.
On Aug. 11, US General Merrick Garland granted Delaware US Attorney David Weiss — the point person in the Hunter Biden case — special counsel authority. As a result, Weiss now has added legal firepower for his investigation.
Complimenting that inquiry are efforts by congressional Republicans, led by Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) to take a deep dive into the Biden family’s overseas activity and potential influence peddling.
The White House has accused the GOP of distorting Hunter Biden’s record and his top lawyer, Abbe Lowell strongly believes this client shouldn’t face additional charges.
“There’s no new evidence to be found,” he told CBS’s “Face the Nation” earlier this month, stressing if prosecutors stick to “the facts, the evidence, and the law,” there won’t be new charges.
