Hurricane victim floats in inflatable pool in Ian ravaged home
Her pool turned into a life raft.
Harrowing footage has emerged of a woman floating helplessly in an inflatable pool after her home was flooded by Hurricane Ian, which was a Category 1 storm Thursday evening.
Video of her impromptu flotation device has amassed more than 40 million views and 5 million likes on TikTok as viewers feared for her safety.
The nail-biting clip, captioned “Send Help,” shows user Beth curled up in the blue blow-up pool as it bobs about with her furniture in the living room, which is inundated with water up to the window level like a scene out of “Titanic.” All the while, powerful winds can be seen lashing the trees outside.
At one point, the homeowner, whose location is unclear, can be heard asking the audience “if you’ve ever floated in a floaty pool in your own living room with your refrigerator….at your door.”
Needless to say, Beth’s terrifying predicament prompted a deluge of worried responses from TikTok commentariat.
“Omg!!!! please stay safe,” gasped one concerned viewer, while another wrote, “Please let us know that you’re okay.”
“Stay safe. This could compromise the structure of your house, please be careful!!!” another well-wisher warned.
Beth’s status is yet unclear. However, the storm victim posted a follow-up video yesterday, taken from a completely dark house, in which she implores the public to save her. “If you could see me now, I’m alive, still floating in water, someone needs to come help me,” Beth pleads in the clip.
The heartrending video comes as Hurricane Ian barrels toward South Carolina, where it’s slated to make landfall Friday, before hitting North Carolina on Saturday.
The former Category 4 storm pounded the Southeast coastline this past week, bringing 150 mph winds and 12-foot waves that flooded homes and left millions of people stranded and without power across Florida.
Meanwhile, economic losses are projected to exceed $100 billion dollars in damage.
In a grisly scene yesterday, flooding caused by Hurricane Ian unearthed human remains in a cemetery near Orlando.
