‘I am not here for regulations’ – Erik ten Hag refuses to comment on Manchester City’s alleged financial breaches

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has refused to be drawn on the charges levied against Manchester City.

The football world was rocked by the announcement from the Premier League on Monday that City had been charged with over 100 alleged financial rule breaches spanning nearly a decade.
City have been referred to an independent commission over the charges, with a wide range of punishments available for consideration.

Asked for his thoughts on the matter, Ten Hag insisted it had nothing to do with him.

“I don’t have [an opinion],” he said in his pre-match press conference ahead of United’s Premier League clash with Leeds.

“I am not here for financial regulations. I am a football manager – I have to stick to that and others have to deal with that [City’s charges].”

United welcome struggling Leeds to Old Trafford with the opportunity to go level on points with City in second place with a win.

The troubled Yorkshire side sacked manager Jesse Marsch just 48 hours before the match with Michael Skubala taking temporary charge.

However, Ten Hag is taking nothing for granted and warned that his side could be caught out if Leeds have a change of approach to what United have prepared for.

“We have to be aware of that so when Jesse Marsch was at Leeds it was clear how they played, so the way of play, our system, their style.

“Now it’s possible they change, but it’s also possible they don’t change. We will only find out on the pitch tomorrow, but we need good anticipation on that so we know what to do.”

United will be without midfielder Casemiro for the match following the Brazilian’s red card against Crystal Palace.

Ten Hag was disappointed with the decision but revealed the club chose not to appeal the player’s subsequent three-match ban.

“Yeah, for me, it wasn’t the right decision,” he added. “But I don’t think we have a chance in a legal process.”
