‘I be a guinea pig’
He’s willing to go on a Mike-edelic adventure for science.
Apparently “dying” during a toad venom trip wasn’t much of a drug deterrent: Boxing icon and psychotropic voyager Mike Tyson claims he’d be willing to put his mind on the line and volunteer for psychedelic drug trials allegedly occurring in the UK. The boxing icon — who recently fell asleep mid-interview with Piers Morgan — dropped the bombshell during an interview with UK author and civilization hunter Graham Hancock.
“I would love to be a guinea pig for that,” exclaimed the 56-year-old ex-heavyweight champ, who recently hosted Hancock on his eponymous podcast “Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson.”
The subject came up after Kid Dynamite mentioned how the Imperial College London’s Centre for Psychedelic Research is allegedly conducting trials on DMT — a potent psychedelic found in multiple plants and animals, Jam Press reported.
“It’s not been widely publicized yet but it’s called DMTX,” Tyson exclaimed on Hancock’s “The Fighter and The Writer” podcast. “As you know DMT is a quick journey, it’s 12, 15 minute journey. Rocketship to the other side of reality.”
The ring legend added that the Center for Psychedelic Research had invented “a technology to basically deliver DMT by drip to volunteers” and that those “those volunteers are making extended journeys in the DMT realm.”
“They are coming back with the same observations,” Tyson claimed, adding “I want to do that one, the drip.”
As of yet, it’s yet unclear if the Imperial College London is conducting said trials. However they have done numerous studies on DMT, including one in 2019 that found that ayahuasca — a plant-based hallucinogen whose active ingredient is DMT — can alter our brain waves in an effect akin to “dreaming while awake.”
Dr Robin Carhart-Harris, head of the Centre for Psychedelic Research, has not yet returned the Post’s request for comment.
Nonetheless, Hancock appeared familiar with the research, stating: “It’s like they are mapping another world.
“It doesn’t wear off, it goes straight into the bloodstream and doesn’t wear off,” the “Ancient Apocalypse” host added. “And it lasts for about an hour.”
Needless to say, the boxer appeared intrigued by the prospect of being a psychotropic crash test dummy. “How do I get that stuff?” Tyson asked, to which Hancock replied, “You talk to Imperial college in London, I think they might be very interested in talking to you.”
“I could be one of those guinea pigs,” the Brooklynite replied.
This would be far from the boxer’s first foray into the world of psychedelics. In an interview with Muscle and Health Magazine August, Tyson claimed that he takes magic mushrooms and weed before fights because it tames his infamous ring rage.
The fight icon also made headlines in 2021 after claiming that he “died” and was “reborn” after taking 5-MeO-DMT (5-methoxy-N, N-dimethyltryptamine), a powerful psychoactive compound derived from Sonoran Desert toad venom.
Tyson revealed he tried 5-MeO-DMT — also known as the “god molecule on a “dare” several years ago when he was 100 pounds overweight and hooked on drugs and alcohol.
“In my trips, I’ve seen that death is beautiful,” the Brownsville, Texas, native described while speaking at Wonderland, a Miami conference dedicated to psychedelics, micro-dosing and medicine. “Life and death both have to be beautiful, but death has a bad rep.”
“The toad has taught me that I’m not going to be here forever. There’s an expiration date,” added the Brooklyn-based brawler, who has reportedly tripped 53 times — sometimes multiple times per day.
Since undergoing his perspective-altering regimen, Tyson has reportedly lost 100 pounds in three months, started boxing again and reconnected with his wife and children.
And the knockout monger’s not the only celeb who swears by 5-MeO-DMT. Various famous figures claimed to have tripped on the hoppy hallucinogen, including Chelsea Handler and Hunter Biden.
