I bought my son a cleaning set — and trolls slammed me

It’s never too early to teach your children about chores — or is it?

Lex Delarosa bought her 2-year-old son a set of cleaning supplies and a doll with the goal of making sure he understands that cleaning and taking care of babies “isn’t just for girls.”

In a TikTok that now has over 85,000 views, she showed off an array of cleaning products her son had, including a mop, broom and dustpan.

He also had a mini vacuum cleaner in addition to “play food” and a baby doll, which Delarosa said “people have an issue with for some reason.”

“I’ve had someone say ‘that’s weird’ to us when my son was out with his doll before,” she commented underneath the TikTok.

She wanted her son to gain an interest in cooking and learn responsibility.

Some people in the comments went after Delarosa’s parenting technique.

“I think when they’re old enough to clean for a chore, but making it seem like a fun thing is really sad when they’re only one,” one person commented.

This caused Delarosa to make a follow-up video to this comment explaining that her son has a lot of fun cleaning because “kids love mimicking their parents.”

She didn’t think it was sad “raising capable children.”

There were supporters in the comments too.

“It’s never too young to start. Mine was 1 also when he started,” one person commented.

“You’re an amazing mom! People with their negative opinions should really just hush,” said another.

One fellow mother could even relate to her — “I have a toy playhouse for my son with a kitchen, the amount of comments I got on giving a boy a kitchen,” she said.
