I lost it when my best friend chose her brother to be her ‘man of honor’

When it comes to weddings, usually it’s the brides that tend to get criticized for their behavior in the lead-up to the big day.

But this time it’s a bridesmaid who has been slammed for pulling out of her best friend’s wedding when she found out she wasn’t going to be her maid of honour.

The woman explained that, at first, she was excited when her friend told her she was engaged.

“Maybe it was presumptuous, but I thought I was going to be her maid of honor. She didn’t bring it up after her engagement announcement, but I didn’t think much of it at the time,” she explained in her Reddit post.

She went on to explain that they had become incredibly close after the bride lost her father and two older sisters in a tragic car accident seven years earlier.

“I was her shoulder to cry on. She became attached to me as a second sister and grew closer to her only living sibling (her brother),” she said.

But the woman became enraged when the bride told her she would just be a bridesmaid and she would be choosing her brother instead.

“I blew up. I told her it was ridiculous that she was going to choose her brother to be her ‘man of honor,’” she said.

“She looked confused and upset, reminding me of how much her brother means to her. I reminded her that I’m her best friend and that she’s taking this opportunity from me.”

While the bride apologized that she was upset, she said her mind was made up.

“I was upset to and told her I wouldn’t be attending her wedding and that I couldn’t believe my best friend would betray me like that,” she added.

Woman slammed for abusing bride-to-be

The woman said her friends think she’s being dramatic, but she is heartbroken over the situation so she’d turned to the online forum to ask if she was being unreasonable.

People were quick to chastise the woman for her actions.

“You’re insanely dramatic and honestly preposterous. You’re actually doing her a favour by not going to the wedding at this point,” one person said.

“It’s not about you! And you consider yourself her best friend when you can’t understand why she chooses her brother?!” said another. 

Another person added: “Go to the wedding and be an adult. It’s not like she chose some random co-worker or something. She chose her only remaining sibling.”
