Iga Swiatek says she is considering enrolling at a university after her tennis career finishes
Iga Swiatek has revealed she is considering enrolling at a university after her tennis career finishes, with the world No. 1 saying she misses the “stimulation” of learning.
Swiatek originally made the decision to delay university for two years as she tried to crack it as a professional – and that decision worked out supremely as the Pole has become the undisputed best player in the women’s game since the retirement of Ash Barty in 2022.
Swiatek has regularly talked of her passion for reading, something that sits alongside her remarkable on-court successes over the past few years, and that it “helps me maintain balance between my life and my work”.

“I really like to learn, so I’m kind of still used to school, you know?,” she said.
“I finished two years ago and miss just having some stimulation that way.
“But on the other hand, I know I can’t do much because my priority is tennis and my career.
“I’m pretty sure that maybe after I finish, I will go to some university.
“I’m just curious about the world. And I sometimes have to stop being curious because I need to focus on tennis.
“And I’m trying to kind of still have that curiosity, maybe not during the matches and tournaments, but when I have time off.”
Swiatek’s first breakout beyond the fourth round at a major came in 2020 at the French Open, an event she ultimately won to claim her first Grand Slam aged just 19.
Talking at the time, the Pole was already aware of the competing demands on her time.
“Right now it’s going to be hard to make a decision to go back to studying because I feel like really I can achieve big things,” she said. “I just want to focus on that.
“But really I’m only 19, so a lot can change during few years. We are going to see. Maybe I’m going to be hungry for knowledge or anything.
“I think if I’m going to be in a few finals of Grand Slams, it would be impossible to study and playing that kind of tennis consistently.”
