I’m a Starbucks barista and customers have to stop doing this
People can be impatient while waiting for their caffeine fix, but a Starbucks employee has put customers on blast who “steady stare” at her while she makes them their drinks.
TikTok user Kim Porter shared a clip of her pouring milk into a drink while working at Starbucks, looking at a “customer” off-screen.
“Me to the customer steady [staring] while I make their drink,” she wrote on the video, which has been viewed more than 144,500 times.
In the caption she noted she was off the clock and her behavior in the clip wasn’t in response to an actual customer she was serving at the time.
The 5-second footage resonated with baristas, who agreed it’s rude and uncomfortable to have people staring at them.
“I stare at them back and if they don’t look away I ask ‘hi are you looking for something?’ ” wrote one user.
“They be acting like it’s gonna make me make their drink faster,” another added.
Others pointed out that even though customers watch them make their drink, they still make a crucial mistake.
“They watch me make their drink and still grab the wrong one,” joked a follower.
Some customers explained why they watch the baristas make their drink.
“I just find it satisfying to watch them make the drink and watch the coffee change colors,” one woman said.
“Last time the worker put whole milk instead of almond milk and I got sick,” another said.
Starbucks workers haven’t shied away from sharing their work stories. Last week, a barista blasted their co-workers for taking to the app to whine, telling them it’s “literally their job.”
