Impossible’ cruises to No. 1 at the box office

The Tom Cruise-led “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” was No. 1 at the box office on Friday, raking in $16.55 million, according to IMDB’s Box Office Mojo.

The action spy flick, which the Post lauded as “summer’s best movie,” was released in select theaters on Monday, with a wider release on Wednesday.

“Sound of Freedom,” which is in third last week, moved up to the No. 2 spot, earning close to $7.5 million.

The film is based on the true story of Timothy Ballard, a former Department of Homeland Security agent who busts a child sexual abuse ring in Colombia. The Post reported that some liberal media outlets consider it to be a QAnon dog whistle.

In third place is the supernatural-horror “Insidious: The Red Door,” which earned $4.15 million. It was released last Friday, and on its opening weekend, brought in $32.65 million in domestic sales, the second highest opening weekend for the franchise, according to Forbes.

Pixar’s “Elemental” came in fifth close to a month after its June 16 release, with $2.6 million in sales.
