Issa Rae calls out Hollywood for protecting Ezra Miller, ‘The Flash’

Issa Rae has some thoughts on Hollywood’s continued attempts to save “The Flash” despite star Ezra Miller’s troubling antics.

The 37-year-old “Insecure” actress said the industry trying to “protect offenders” like 30-year-old Miller, who uses they/them pronouns, represents a “microcosm of Hollywood.”

“While I don’t support people jumping to immediate conclusions and I think it’s entirely fair for investigations to happen, I think it’s extremely important to, like the mantra says, ‘Listen to women,’” Rae told Elle.

“I’m gonna be real, the stuff that’s happening with Ezra Miller is, to me, a microcosm of Hollywood. There’s this person who’s a repeat offender, who’s been behaving atrociously, and as opposed to shutting them down and shutting the production down, there’s an effort to save the movie and them,” she added.

“That is a clear example of the lengths that Hollywood will go to to save itself and to protect offenders,” Rae continued. “So, don’t do that, and women may be able to thrive. They won’t have to live in fear of keeping silent because it’ll ruin their careers. It’s just a constant pattern of abuse that’ll only persist if Hollywood continues to insist on being this way.”

Miller has been the center of a slew of disturbing allegations and legalities. Their troubles started this year when Miller was arrested twice in Hawaii — once for disorderly conduct and harassment.

Then, they were cited in Vermont for felony burglary and later in the year, would be accused of hosting a young mother and her three kids at their ranch weapon-filled farm in the state.

Two years ago in Iceland, Miller was caught on video choking a woman outside of a bar.

Miller has also been accused of grooming young girls in an alleged cult-like situation.

But despite all of these incidents, Warner Bros. still plans to release the Miller-starred movie “The Flash” on June 23, 2023.

In August, a rep for Miller told Variety that they were seeking treatment for “complex mental health issues.”

“Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment,” Miller said in a statement issued by their rep.

“I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior. I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life,” they added.

Rae’s comments about Miller came after she was asked by the magazine about how Hollywood changed after the #MeToo movement.

“Hollywood is very bad about consequences,” she said. “It’s literally the worst industry when it comes to punishing people for misdeeds and actions, because money will always reign supreme. That’s something that, even by working in this industry, we’re enabling. So it’s hard.”
