Speaking to Eurosport ahead of the event, Team Europe captain Borg and Team World captain McEnroe were both effusive in their praise for the four players when asked about whether Federer is the greatest of all time.
“The greatest player of all time with the men. I break it down to like, in my opinion, the greatest grasscourt player of all time is Roger, the greatest hardcourt player is Novak, and the greatest clay court player is Rafa,” McEnroe said. “Closely followed by this guy [points to Borg]”. “No, no!” replied Borg.
The Swedish star continued: “I mean, the Big Four is going to be at the Laver Cup. Even Andy Murray. It’s nice to see these guys together.

McEnroe added that sometimes the scale of the achievements can get lost.
“I mean, we sort of lose sight of how unbelievable it is,” the American added.
“But I think in 10 years, 20 years when you look back, you’re like, wow, I don’t think there’s always going to be the next guy who’s going to win 20, no.
“Although I didn’t think any of these three would win this many it is true.”
