Jaaron Thomas confesses to strangling girlfriend during sex
A Texas man has been charged with manslaughter after confessing to choking his girlfriend to death while the pair were having sex, cops said.
Harris County sheriff’s deputies responded to an address in the 800 block of Ashland Boulevard in Channelview around 2:20 a.m. Tuesday for a medical emergency report.
Once there, officers found 24-year-old DeJe Garett-Hillard lying unresponsive. She was rushed to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Deputies interviewed the victim’s boyfriend, 27-year-old Jaaron Thomas, who allegedly told them that the amorous couple was engaged in erotic asphyxiation when Garrett-Hillard became unresponsive.
Erotic asphyxiation refers to a sex act that involves intentionally cutting off air supply to the brain with choking to increase sexual arousal.
A criminal complaint obtained by The Post stated that Thomas “unlawfully” and “recklessly” caused his girlfriend’s death by “applying pressure to the neck and throat of DeJe Garett-Hillard with his hands and impeding her breath.”
Thomas was arrested and charged with manslaughter in connection with Garrett-Hillard’s death. He was ordered jailed on $40,000 bond, which he posted Thursday.
Before his release, prosecutors asked a judge to impose several bond conditions on Thomas, barring him from making contact with the victim’s family, possessing firearms, or consuming drugs or alcohol. Thomas is due back in court on May 17.
Harris County court records show that Thomas had been arrested in Nov. 2021 on a charge of soliciting prostitution, which was ultimately dismissed.
