Jack Lisowski whitewashes Zhang Anda to advance into German Masters last 16, could play Jimmy White

Jack Lisowski whitewashed Zhang Anda with a dominant 5-0 victory to reach the last 16 of the German Masters.

With most of the sport’s top names failing to qualify for the main draw in Berlin, Lisowski is one of just four top-16 players in this week’s event.

He is yet to win a ranking event but is one of the favourites to lift the title on Sunday given his progress over the last 12 months, working alongside former world champion Peter Ebdon.

‘Unbelievable shot’ – Lisowski lauded after stunning pot frees up reds

The first frame saw Lisowski capitalise on a nervy start from Zhang with a couple of scoring visits, as the Chinese player failed to impose himself.

Lisowski was able to take control of the match in the second, showcasing his improved safety game by laying a tough snooker tight, behind the green, on his opponent which took five attempts for Zhang to get out of.

Having seemingly found the speed of the table quicker than Zhang, Lisowski’s confidence increased, underpinned by some delightful positional play when he powered in the black in towards the end of the third frame and split the two reds on the bottom cushion and set up frame-ball for a 3-0 lead.

The interval couldn’t come soon enough for an increasingly downbeat Zhang, but not before Lisowski delighted the crowd inside the Tempodrom in Berlin with a clearance of 117 to put himself just one more frame from victory.

After the interval, Lisowski came out flying with another great long red to make a match-winning break of 87.

Lisowski could play Jimmy White in the next round on Thursday night if the Whirlwind beats Peng Yisong when the pair play tonight at 19:00 live and exclusive on discovery+ and eurosport.co.uk.

Elsewhere, Tian Pengfei recovered from losing the first frame to beat Anthony McGill 5-1 and Elliot Slessor was victorious 5-2 over Joe O’Connor.
